Anambra Govt Recovers Land from Illegal Occupants in Onitsha

By Sunny A. Ijomah

Anambra State Government has reclaimed government land allotted for  Judges’ Quarters in Onitsha.

The quarters is located behind Anambra State Governor’s Lodge, GRA, Onitsha.

Officials of the Physical Planning Board led a joint task force and pulled down perimeter wall illegally erected on the  Judges’ Quarters in Onitsha.

The Executive Chairman of Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Barrister Chike Maduekwe, headed the enforcement movement.

This is the third time the joint task force is embarking on such visit.

The action is coming after several correspondence to the illegal developers to present proof of allocation, allegedly fell on deaf ears.

Barrister Maduekwe said that the matter has been on for a long time and inspite of the fact that the case is in court, the developers were busy erecting all sorts of illegal structures that are against the interest of the government.

While emphasizing that government is not interested in oppressing anybody, but is interested in serving the people, Barrister Maduekwe explained that there is an established process of acquiring government land and advised those concerned to wait till the matter is determined.

The joint task force also marked unapproved buildings erected at Water Works and Savoy, Onitsha for demolition, where it was observed that some persons had encroached and built different structures on government land.

Erring developers were served with notices and given invitation to present their allocation documents and building permits.

According to the Chairman of ANSPPB, Barrrster. Maduekwe, the  Board scheduled a meeting with the developers at the Board’s Headquarters at Amawbia this week.

Also speaking, the General Manager of Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Mr. Nwabufo Anene who said that the enforcement is to ensure controlled development in the State, called on intending developers to make adequate enquiries before purchasing any property, as it is the only way of saving themselves from incurring any form of loss.

The Transition Committee Chairman for Onitsha North Council Area, Mr. Patrick Aghamba, Senior Special Assitant to Governor Obiano on Lands and Physical Planning, Mrs. Joy Nneli, among others participated in the exercise.
