In a significant move to address long-standing road issues, the Anambra State Government has commenced repairs on the Federal Government owned Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, focusing on the critical Amawbia Flyover Axis. This portion of the expressway, notorious for its dilapidated condition, has been a major source of concern for commuters and residents alike.

The state government’s intervention is in response to the deteriorating state of the federal highway which has significantly hampered travel and economic activities in the region. The expressway is a key route that connects Anambra to neighboring states, and its poor condition has caused frequent traffic congestion, accidents, and vehicle damage for some time.

Fides Team, stationed at the repair site, observed heavy machinery and construction workers, actively working to restore the road. Early reports from the scene indicated that the repairs were progressing steadily, with government officials on-site overseeing the process to ensure quality and timely completion.

Residents and commuters have expressed mixed reactions to the ongoing work. Many have welcomed the repairs, expressing relief that the government had taken action to resolve the road issues. However, some remain cautious, citing previous delays and unfulfilled promises regarding the road’s rehabilitation.

Governor Charles Soludo, speaking at the launch of the project, emphasized the importance of the repairs for improving safety and boosting economic activities in the state. He assured the public that the state government was committed to completing the project on time, despite it, being a Federal Road. He also reiterated calls for more federal support to maintain critical infrastructure in the Southeast Region.

The repairs, when completed, are expected to ease the flow of traffic, reduce travel time, and enhance the overall road network in Anambra State.
