The holiday lessons organized by the Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Sir Chuma Pius Okoye, representing Awka South 11, have drawn to a close, with Okoye commending the teachers and students on the success of the exercise, even as the Deputy Speaker gave financial rewards to the best performing students.
It will be recalled that the lessons were initiated by the Deputy Speaker, in order to keep the students busy and away from crime which idleness often causes.
The programme which officially ended on August 30, was rounded off with a brief ceremony on September 1 during which the sponsor, Rt Hon Okoye, urged the students to be of good behaviour and to remain good citizens of the state. He also charged the students to keep the fire lit during the programme burning, while rewarding outstanding students.
Earlier, the coordinator of the lessons, Mr Emmanuel Nwana, commended the Deputy Speaker for his gesture and described the programme as a huge success, noting that it made a huge and positive impact on the participants. He said the exams were conducted according to classes from which the best performing students were chosen.
Speaking on behalf of the students and teachers, one of the students, Miss Onu Jennifer Ogonna, in a vote of thanks, commended the organizers, noting that the lessons had prepared them well for the new academic session.
