As political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2025 Anambra Governorship Election, the Anglican Bishop on the Niger, the Rt Rev Dr Owen Nwokolo has cautioned politicians to play the game according to its rules without heating up the state.
Bishop Nwokolo passionately entreated politicians and their followers to religiously conduct themselves with maturity and shun rancour and bitterness.
Speaking during a monthly press chat with journalists at his GRA Episcopal House in Onitsha recently, Bishop Nwokolo urged political actors to rather prioritize peace and unity over divisive rhetoric and personal attacks.
He stressed that leadership was a call to service and not a battleground for hostility.
“The forthcoming election should not be an avenue for strife and animosity. I sincerely plead with politicians to focus on issues, present their manifestos with decency, and respect opposing views.
“Anambra has a legacy of political consciousness, and we must not allow unhealthy rivalry to tarnish our democratic process,” he stated.
The Church Father further appealed to supporters of various candidates to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could incite violence or disrupt the peace of the state.
He emphasized the need for campaigns anchored on integrity, accountability and genuine concern for the welfare of Ndị Anambra.
It is observed that as the Gubernatorial Race intensifies each day, stakeholders have continued to appeal for peaceful conduct, fearing that tensions could escalate if not properly managed and nipped in the bud.
Observers say Bishop Nwokolo’s admonition is timely, given the History of electoral disputes in the state.
With political parties now preparing for primaries, all eyes remain on Anambra Politics, as residents are anxiously looking forward to seeing an election reflective of the will of the people without unnecessary conflicts.
