The Anambra Independent Football League (AIFL) Season 3 started on Friday September 28, 2018 with football fireworks. Home team Mekon United FC of Eziowelle held visiting DOSAD football Academy of Enugwu Ukwu to a 2-2 draw at the Eziowelle sports stadium. John Chinaza Okeke of DOSAD got a brace in the match and currently tops the scorers’ chart after one game.
Thirteen teams are participating in the 2018/19 AIFL, season 3 since inception. The teams are; Udala FC of Okpuno, DOSAD FA of Enugwu Ukwu, Rangels FA of Achina, Mekon United FC of Eziowele, Graceland FC of Awgbu, World FA of Nanka, Samba FC of Amansea, GP World FA of Nnewi and Ozalla FA of Onitsha. The newcomers who joined are Dynamic FC of Aguluzoigbo, Rising Star FC of Ojoto, Ifechikwulu FC of Omor and Real Stars of Nnewi.
Addressing the Press, the AIFL Chairman, Rev Fr Coach Obinna Dike applauded the AIFL saying it has struck up fever pitch level of football in Anambra. According to the Pro League retired referee, both local and foreign agents and scouts now troop to Anambra in search of football talents, courtesy of the AIFL. He commended the teams for bearing the cost of running the league as sponsors are sought after.
