. . . Urges Cyclists, Keke Operators in Anambra to Obtain Class “A” Driver’s License

In his bid to ensure safer roads and to reduce road crashes during the festive period to the barest minimum, the Anambra Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Andrew Kumapayi, says the command will close down its offices in the 21 local government areas, including the State Capital, and move to the roads.
Speaking exclusively to Fides, the Sector Commander said they would ensure that no driver violated road safety rules and regulations, noting that anyone found wanting would be dealt with severely.
He added that the command had put measures in place to checkmate abuse of road traffic and the excesses of reckless drivers.
According to the FRSC boss who said he would personally lead the charge, the command had gotten reasonable support from the state government led by Governor Willie Obiano. He assured Ndi Anambra of accident free Christmas and New Year celebrations.
‘We are leaving no stone unturned in ensuring safer roads and fuller lives. We are going to apply all the techniques to achieve our set objective,’ he stated.
Mr. Kumapayi urged the motorcycle and tricycle operators across the state to visit any Road Safety Drivers Licensing Centre to commence the processes of obtaining their Class ‘A’ Driver’s License.
He warned that any operator of tricycle or motor cycle without the above license, would have their vehicle impounded and the owner made to pay the necessary fine as enshrined in the Road Safety Law.
Mr. Kumapayi who said that the enforcement of Driver’s License and vehicle number plates for tricycle and motor cycle operators commenced nation-wide on the second of this month, added that the exercise, apart from making the Road Safety have a comprehensive data base of all motor cycle and tricycle operators, would equally enhance security of life and property.
The State Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps commended the Anambra State Government for its support and maintained that it would collaborate with other relevant agencies across the State to ensure sanity on the highways.
Mr. Kumapayi used the opportunity to advise motorists to always obey traffic rules and regulations to reduce accidents on the roads.
