The entire Catholic Community, friends and well-wishers of St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, Mbaukwu in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, November 9, 2025, welcomed the Catholic Bishop of Awka, Most Rev. Paulinus Chukwuemeka who paid a Pastoral Visit.

The event began with a Holy Mass presided over by the Chief Shepherd of the Diocese of Awka, Bishop Ezeokafor.

Speaking at the Mass while delivering the homily, the Bishop, in connection with the Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica being celebrated, called attention to the need to accord proper decorum to places of worship and to make the body fit for the dwelling of the Holy Spirit.

‘This feast reminds us that the Church is not just where we find God, it is also where God finds us,’ the Bishop explained, pointing out that places of worship were sacred spaces where the faithful met the Divine.

He exhorted the congregation to not just revere the places of worship but to also not desecrate the places of worship by the kind of things they did in those places.

He explained that those who genuinely worshipped God also kept themselves holy, citing St. Paul who said, “The temple of God, which you are, is holy (I Cor 3:17).”

Acknowledging the presence of the Bishop as a great source of joy to the parish, the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Dr. Boniface Obiekezie, and the Priest in Residence, Rev. Fr. Dr. Chidi Jude Ozumba, expressed gratitude to the Bishop and all those who contributed to the success of the event.

‘It would not have been possible without the immense contributions of many people whom God used to achieve this,’ he said.

Among the highlights of the event were the administration of the Sacrament of Confirmation on 221 faithful; the blessing and commissioning of a Kitchen built by the CWO of the Parish; presentation of awards to many of the parishioners for their contributions to the Church and Society, among whom was the Igwe of Mbaukwu, HRM Igwe P. N. Anugwu, who was made the Grand Patron of the Parish.

In the mood and joy of the celebration, the Chairman of the occasion, Ichie Ekene Onyebuchi (Okadigbo Mbaukwu), said the Church had always remained committed to her
