… Laments Insecurity in Kwara State

By Emeka Odogwu

Bishop of Offa Diocese, Rt. Rev’d . Dr. Solomon Olusola Akanbi has commissioned the long-awaited Cathedral Greater Chapter, a project that took five years to complete.

Bishop Akanbi expressed profound thanksgiving to God for the successful completion of the project, describing it as a symbol of faith, unity, and divine progress within the church.

He said, “We thank God for putting it in the hearts of the people to support this project which started five years ago. Today, we can all rejoice in the Lord for this great achievement.”

The Bishop, visibly elated, commended members of the church for their steadfast commitment, financial contributions, and collective effort in making the project a reality. He specifically appreciated Chief and Chief Mrs. Remi Oni, Engr. Ogunsaju, Project Supervisor; Mr. Benson; Architect Olonilua; the Building Committee of the Cathedral; the family of Engr. and late Mrs. Ogunsaju; the Church Chiefs;  and several others for their dedication and unwavering support throughout the construction period.

Bishop Akanbi noted that the project’s completion stood as a testament to faith, perseverance, and unity of purpose, adding that it would further enhance the spiritual and administrative activities of the church.

However, while celebrating the milestone, the cleric also used the opportunity to lament the worsening state of insecurity in Nigeria, particularly in Kwara State and other parts of the country.

He described the spate of banditry, kidnapping, and armed robbery as a major threat to peace and national development, calling on government at all levels to intensify efforts toward finding a lasting solution to the menace.

According to him, “The security situation in Nigeria has become worrisome. People no longer sleep with their eyes closed, even in their homes. It is high time the government rose up to its primary responsibility of protecting lives and properties.”

Bishop Akanbi further appealed to security agencies to strengthen collaboration, intelligence gathering, and community policing, while urging citizens to remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding their communities.

He advised Nigerians to act as “the police of their environment” by promptly reporting suspicious movements and activities to relevant authorities.

The Bishop concluded by praying for peace, stability, and prosperity in Kwara State and across the nation, urging leaders to govern with justice, fairness, and the fear of God.
