The media community in Anambra State has been thrown into mourning at the demise of a veteran journalist, Mr Alphonsus Nweze, of Apex News Online. Nweze, who hailed from Nsukka, Enugu State, died on Tuesday in a motor accident along the Asaba–Onitsha Expressway as he went home.

His death was confirmed by a member of the Nsukka Patriotic Platform in Asaba, Delta State.

Alphous Nweze was a former Champion Correspondent in Onitsha, Anambra State, and had also worked with many newspapers and online news publications in the state.

According to reports from the group, Mr. Nweze had boarded the ill-fated bus at the Bridge Head, Onitsha, en route to Asaba, where he lived. Just a few minutes into the journey, the vehicle reportedly lost its brakes and crashed at the Abraka Junction, tipping over on Nweze’s side and trapping him underneath.

An eyewitness stated that by the time the vehicle was lifted, the impact had already taken a severe toll on him.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital in an almost lifeless state before being transferred to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba, where he was pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, members of the Anambra State Correspondents’ Chapel have expressed deep sorrow over the sudden demise of Mr. Nweze, describing him as a dedicated and passionate journalist who made significant contributions to the profession.
