The Rt. Rev. Godwin Adeyi Robinson, Bishop of the Diocese of Lafia (Anglican Communion), has collated archdeacons, presented honorary canons, and ordained deacons in a well-attended service at St. James Cathedral, Lafia.
This marked the Stream 2 of Collation of Archdeacons, presentation of honorary canons and Ordination Service for 2025.
The event was preceded by a four-day retreat at the Chapel of Thanksgiving, led by the Bishop. The retreat, themed “Preach Christ” (1 Corinthians 1:23), featured teachings delivered by resource persons.
According to *Rev. Canon Isaac Onwusongaonye
Diocesan Media Director Bishop Godwin emphasized the centrality of Christ in ministry, declaring it an error to preach oneself rather than Christ. He cautioned against practices that shift focus to personalities, including prayers directed to the “God of my Pastor,” stressing instead that Christ alone is the hope, solution, and answer to human needs.
Highlighting the reason for the call to preach Christ, the Bishop noted that only the name of Christ saves, for Christ is the power of God unto salvation. He further warned against empty religiosity, reminding the candidates that religion cannot save, but Christ does.
In an emotional charge, he urged the new ministers to avoid self-appraisal, live consecrated lives, and faithfully proclaim Christ in word and deed.
Those collated as Archdeacons were: Ven. Samuel Mamoh, Ven. Isah Araba, Ven. Paul Oluboba, and Ven. Ugochukwu Ezechukwu.
Presented as Honorary Canons were: Rev. Canon Yakubu Yusufu, Rev. Canon Stephen Ibezim, Rev. Canon Anayo Okonkwo, and Rev. Canon Tanimu Jeze.
Ordained as Deacons were: Rev. Chidiebere Ugwuoke, Rev. Desmond Agbo, Rev. Benjamin Ashangbon, Rev. Daniel Onyekachi, Rev. Kenneth Obah, and Rev. Thomas Akwaden.
The service featured the Holy Eucharist and thanksgiving. Rev. Canon (Captain Rtd) Ibong was formally welcomed to the Diocese, while Rev. Canon Emmanuel Angolo was reinstated to the rank of Canon.
In closing, the Bishop pronounced God’s favour upon the congregation in this Ember season. The service ended in joyful praise to the glory of God.
