The Labour Party Governorship Candidate in Anambra State, Dr. George Moghalu, has taken a swipe at Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo following the shocking revelation that Anambra State attracted zero foreign investment in the first quarter of 2025.
According to the recently released capital importation report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), only six states and the FCT received any form of foreign capital in Q1 2025. While the FCT attracted $3.05 billion and Lagos secured $2.56 billion, even relatively states like Ogun ($7.95 million), Oyo ($7.81 million), Kaduna ($4.06 million), Kano ($117,000), and Ekiti ($4,250) made the list. Anambra State was nowhere to be found.
In a statement released by his Special Assistant on Media, Onyebuchi Okoye, Dr. Moghalu described the report as a damning verdict on Governor Soludo’s administration, stating that a government that cannot inspire investor confidence or provide a secure, business-friendly environment has failed in its most basic responsibility.
“This is more than just a number. It is a loud and clear vote of no confidence from the global investment community. Investors are not bringing their money to a state where insecurity is rife, where businesses are stifled, and where government priorities are misplaced,” Moghalu said.
He pointed out that while other governors are busy building investor confidence and securing capital inflow for development, Governor Soludo is busy trading political insults, throwing jabs at opponents, and engaging in blame games, all while the state slides into economic irrelevance.
“What kind of governor watches his state vanish from the economic radar and still has the audacity to mock others? Instead of providing solutions to insecurity, over-taxation, and economic stagnation, he is more focused on his ego and propaganda machinery,” Moghalu added.
He noted that Anambra’s historical reputation as a hub of enterprise, trade, and industry has been badly eroded under the current government. With worsening insecurity, unchecked harassment of traders by illegal tax agents, poor infrastructure, and no coherent economic policy, the state has become unattractive to both local and foreign investors.
Moghalu emphasized that governance is not about grammar or public relations, but about concrete results that impact lives and build a future.
“When you are the governor of Anambra, you are sitting on one of the richest human and commercial assets in Nigeria. Failing to attract even a dollar of foreign investment in a whole quarter is nothing short of economic sabotage. The people deserve answers.”
Dr. Moghalu called on Ndi Anambra to take this report seriously and begin to ask tough questions. He said the state urgently needs competent, visionary, and people-focused leadership that can reposition Anambra on the global economic map.
“We cannot continue like this. The time for excuses is over. Ndi Anambra deserve better.”
