Mr Collins Chinweze, a community vigilante, assigned to a prominent philanthropist’s residence in Ukpo, Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State, has been convicted of murder by an Anambra State High Court sitting in Neni and presided over by Justice Onyinye Anumonye, with the 3rd October this year set aside for his sentencing.

The convict was said to have abused his power by arbitrarily cutting off electricity and water supply to residents he disliked, a development that prompted the deceased, one John Akpando, who had been denied those essential services, to report the matter to the philanthropist; leading to the dismissal of the defendant.

Enraged, the defendant, it was gathered, ambushed the deceased sometime in March 2018, shot him in the chest and at the back of his head, leading to his death.

Seven witnesses presented by the Prosecution led by an Assistant Chief State Counsel, Anambra State Ministry of Justice, Barrister Fabian Okeke, discredited the defendant’s alibi; as the person he claimed to be with denied being present at the time, of the incident.
