The Maxlife Foundation on June 8 doled out money and food items to 96 families affected by gully erosion at Nkisi Aroli axis of Onitsha.
The Foundation, endowed by Senator Stella Oduah, staged the event at the premises of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, inland-Town, Onitsha, in collaboration with the Parish JDPC.
According to the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Johnbosco Okafor, who supervised the orderly sharing of the items, said that Senator Oduah was the first individual to answer the clarion call by the Church to help the victims.
He described her as a woman with a large heart; always ready to help the needy and the less privileged, irrespective of ethnic affiliation.
The Rev. Father urged the people to accept the offer, given out of love for humanity and never to lose hope in God because of the tragedy that befell them
Each of the recipients went home with a bag of 10kg rice, a carton of noodles, yam and cash gift of N5,000.
Senator Oduah, who represents Anambra North Senatorial Zone, was represented by the Foundation’s Director of Mobilisation, Mr. Noel Udoji.
Mr. Udoji during an interview with information officer said that Maxlife had not only brought succor to the erosion victims alone but also extended help to February flood disaster victims at Fegge, Onitsha.
According to him, the victims, including 20 families and seven shop owners have been gifts of 2 bags of 10kg rice, a carton of noodles, and N10,000 cash each.
A Media Coordinator of the Foundation, Mr. Ezennia Nonso Chukwudebe who was also present, said that the foundation had a motto: “Giving Llife To The People,” had lifted many families from poverty through training and empowerment.
One of the victims, a Proprietress, Seat of Wisdom Nursery and Primary School, Mrs. Patience Nzekwu lamented the loss of her new School building and other property within the premises, prayed for Senator Oduah.
Another victim, Mr. Ibe Emodi, Landlord of one of the buildings demolished by erosion said that they were now homeless as it washed away his house and that of his brothers too.
Mr. Emodi also commended the traditional ruler of Onitsha, Igwe Achebe, who he said had pleaded with Governer Willie Obiano to commence palliative work at the site through IDC Construction Company.
