Oko Poly Rector Inaugurates Polytechnic Management Committee

The Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Engr. Dr. Francisca Unoma Nwafulugo, has inaugurated the institution’s Management Committee in line with the new Polytechnic Amendment Act.

It will be recalled that the new Polytechnic Amendment Act, as contained in Cap F17, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2014, was in 2018 enacted by the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and signed into law in June, 2019, by the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari.

The new Polytechnic Act, among other things, aims at enhancing the quality of learning in polytechnics and fostering employment for Polytechnic graduates in the labour market.

Inaugurating the Management Committee, the Rector, Dr. Nwafulugo, expressed happiness that the Federal Polytechnic, Oko was among the first polytechnics in Nigeria to implement the New Act.

She disclosed that the Management Committee comprised all the principal officers, the Rector; Deputy Rector; Registrar; Bursar and the Polytechnic Librarian, as well as all the Deans of the Schools and Directors of units.

The Rector, who is the chairman of the committee, however charged the committee members to develop positive attitude towards achieving the set goals of the polytechnic.

‘I really want to appreciate you all for working extra hours, especially in this COVID-19 period, to get the institution at the height it is today.

‘We need more commitment because, with your dedication and commitment, I’m certain that we shall take this institution to a greater height.

‘I want to also thank the new Deans and Directors that just joined the Management for their service to the institution. Leadership is all about service and there is every need to show that we are servant leaders. We want you to develop a positive attitude towards achieving the set goals of the institution,’ she advised.

The Deputy Rector, Dr. Izuchukwu Onu, for his part, welcomed the new members to the Management Team, saying that the Federal Polytechnic, Oko would continue to lead on all fronts.

Highlights of the occasion included briefing of the session about the progress of the Institution’s medical centre, especially its new upgrades by the Director Medical Services, Dr Ifeoma Muonago.
