In her readiness to equip the students with the skills they need to excel in the Computer age, the Catholic Diocese of Awka-owned AUSTICA Memorial College, Nanka, Orumba North LGA, Anambra State, last Saturday, February 15, opened a fully equipped Modern Computer Laboratory for use by the students.
According to the School Management, the students, who were divided into groups, had computer training in the laboratory three times each week.
Blessing the computer laboratory equipped with 180 laptops on the occasion of the 21st Founders’ Day and 2020 Parents’ Day of the College, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Paulinus Ezeokafor, thanked God for the giant strides of the school which was founded on the blood of the martyrs – Augustine Eze and Scholastica Nnolim, by the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of Nigeria (CCRN), Awka Diocese, 21 years ago.
The bishop commended the formators of the College led by the Principal/Manager, Rev Fr Barr Obiora Okeke, as well as the former managers of the institution, for what he described as their contributions which made the successes recorded by AUSTICA possible. This was even as he called for stable support from all for the continued growth of the College.
Earlier, when he led in the Concelebrated Votive Mass of the Holy Spirit to mark the event, Bishop Ezeokafor in his homily, charged the students to identify and develop their God-given talents so as to be better and responsible individuals. He also tasked them on discipline and hard work, as well as to dispose themselves to learning and be balanced individuals academically, morally and spiritually.
The Catholic prelate urged the parents, guardians and teachers to do their part and support the proper formation of the children.
In his address of welcome on behalf of the Management, the Vice Principal/Manager, AUSTICA Memorial College, Nanka, Rev Fr Bonaventure Ofolete, highlighted the success story of the institution in academics, infrastructure, music and other extra-curricular activities.
According to the address, AUSTICA had the best orchestra group east of the Niger, and was in July 2019, recognized by the Ministry of Education, Anambra State, as the best private junior secondary school in the state.
The school, through the vice principal’s address, solicited for support from the government and all for its pressing need of three coaster buses, especially for AUSTICA’s Orchestra Group outings.
Various cultural and classical performances, as well as skill displays by the ‘A’ students of AUSTICA Memorial College, Nanka, formed the highlights of the event which had Mr and Mrs Malachy Onuchukwu as the chairman of the occasion, with Mrs Gloria Nweke as the mother of the day.
