As Nigerians bask in the euphoria of the celebration of the 2025 Democracy Day Anniversary, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Anambra State Council, Comrade (Sir) Humphrey Emeka Nwafor, has hailed Nigerian workers for their contributions to the sustenance of the country’s democracy.
Praying that the nation’s democracy be deepened and sustained, the organized labour leader who doubles as the elected Chairman of NASU, appealed to the political elite to desist from circumventing the principles and practice of what he described as popular democracy, as well as to shun the habit of undermining democratic institutions.
‘On behalf of the entire workers and organized labour in Anambra, we congratulate all Nigerians, especially workers, for their sacrifice and resilience in spite of serial acts of betrayal of monumental proportions by the political leadership at various times and levels. I say a very big congratulations to all of us,’ he said.
Comrade Nwafor, while congratulating Nigerian workers, singled out the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, for special praise, describing him as an epitome of democratic principles and ideals.
The NLC Anambra boss also celebrated his wife who bagged a doctorate degree.
The Chairman said his wife, Lady Angela Nwafor, bagged her PhD in Public Administration, Faculty of Management Sciences, from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU). Lady Nwafor is a lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State.
Sir Nwafor, a member of the ancient and Noble Order of the Knights of Saint John International, while congratulating the wife, expressed gratitude to God for making it possible for his wife to attain such a lofty academic height, saying that without God’s mercy and grace the torturous journey would have been aborted or the dreams abandoned halfway.
‘I congratulate my wife for milestones. It is a thing of joy, and I am very grateful to our maker who ensured that it came to fruition. May His Name alone be praised,’ Sir Nwafor, a two-time Chairman of NASU, Anambra State Council, concluded.
