A 19-man man Organizing Committee for the 2025 Anambra State Solution School Sports Initiative (ANSSI), has been inaugurated by the Chairman of Anambra State Sports Development Commission, Patrick Estate Onyedum, at the Conference Hall of the Commission.
The competition is scheduled to kick off on 19 March 2025 at the community level, according to the information made available by the Main Organizing Committee, MOC, after their inaugural meeting which took place immediately after their inauguration.
The events to be competed for include athletics, ayo, basketball, chess, cricket, and football.
Other sports include scrabble, swimming, table tennis, Taekwando, and volleyball.
Hon. Onyedum advised the committee to work towards the successful execution of the competition.
‘Today, Thursday, 6th of February, 2025, the Main Organizing Committee of Anambra Solution Sports Initiative is hereby inaugurated. So go on and do your work.’
He thanked all the committee members, various schools (private, public, and missionary), and every person that contributed to the success of the last competition.
According to the programme as released, the competition at the local government level will come up from 7th to 9th May, 2025. The zonal finals and state finals will be held from 11th to 13th June and 17th to 20th June, 2025, respectively.
According to the MOC, the registration starts immediately and will end on 14th March, 2025. Also, a press conference will be held on the 13th of March, 2025.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Aguata Council Area, Dr. Chibueze Ofobuike, lauded the Anambra State Sports Development Commission for the school sports programme. He offered to talk to the other local government chairmen on the need to assist in making sports competitions very successful.
He said that considering the fact that most of the public schools did not have the capacity financially to take part in the competition, he would assist in rallying support for the competition.
He disclosed plans for similar competitions for schools within the Aguata Council Area, noting that he would find a way of collaborating with ANSSI.
For his part, the Chairman, Anaocha Council Area, Romanus Ibekwe, offered various tips on the ways to solicit support from stakeholders to make the competition a huge success.
The Committee has the Chairman of the Anambra State Sports Development Commission, Patrick Estate Onyedum as Chairman; Emeka Obidimma (Director of Sports), member; Olu Sule (Technical Consultant); Jude Nwafor (Head Coach); Dr. Antonia Uwa; Faith Okwenna (Financial Consultant); and Hon. John Oforah (SA on Sports).
Others include Rev. Fr. Calistus Nworgu (Rep, mission schools); Onwuka Dibian (Rep, public schools principals); Ikeadi Udeaja (Rep, education ministry); Ralph Okafor (Rep, private schools) and Mrs Antonia Okoye (Rep, ASUBEB).
The Committee also has Arekameh Nuwanu (Rep, FG Colleges); Ikemefuna Asika (Media); Mrs. Chidimma Nwankwo (Rep, PPSC); Hon. Ken Okoli (ASATU Youth Leader); and Osita Obijiofor (Secretary).
